Our employees have raised money for the local Munson Healthcare Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital mammogram program in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 3D mammography is a new technology at the hospital that allows radiologists an improved method to screen patients for breast cancer, allowing for increased detection of early breast cancer with decreased “false alarms.” The technology combines multiple images of the breast taken in an arc over the breast to allow the radiologist to “page” through the tissue. Philanthropy provided 100% of the dollars needed for the 3D mammography upgrades.
Graceland Fruit purchased pink branded shirts and polos for employees. Employees could donate an amount of their choosing for their shirts and are encouraged to wear them in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The company plans to match all employee donations 100%. We are happy to report that to date, we have been able to raise over $3,000, all of which will go to the mammogram program at our local hospital! It has been a gratifying experience to spearhead these efforts, and our employees have been extremely generous with their donations.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. On average, every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. Breast cancer has affected some of our employees, and we are so happy to support this worthy cause.
